Āyurveda — The Body

before this →Yoga — The Inner Technology

The first Upaveda is the knowledge of life. Āyurveda treats the body not as a machine to be repaired but as a balance to be maintained — in relation to food, season, work, and mind.

Three humours, one balance

vāta · pitta · kapha

Health is the equilibrium of vāta (movement), pitta (transformation), and kapha (structure); disease is their imbalance. Caraka codifies medicine and regimen; Suśruta codifies surgery, with procedures documented in detail that drew attention from physicians who later visited India.

the frame that is easy to missĀyurveda belongs to the dṛṣṭārtha domain — the seen. It is answerable to observation and experience, not to śabda. That is why it sits here, as an application, and not among the darśanas.
VĀTAmovement — wind and nerve
PITTAtransformation — heat and digestion
KAPHAstructure — fluid and tissue
SANTULANĀbalance, with season and work
